Call for Conference Papers

The 51st Annual Public Choice Society Conference
March 6-9, 2014
Francis Marion Hotel
Charleston, South Carolina

Dear Friends and Members of The Public Choice Society:

I am pleased to invite you to the 51st annual conference of the Public Choice Society, which will be held March 6-9, 2014, at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina.

The 2014 conference will have 64 concurrent sessions and four plenary sessions that will feature timely and important papers by major scholars. Each morning will be provided a continental breakfast, and by popular demand we will also have coffee breaks between sessions. Socializing will be facilitated by cocktail receptions on Friday and Saturday nights, and a common luncheon on Saturday will honor the best paper awards and introduce our incoming President for 2014-2016. We will also have a number of publishers exhibiting books and journals, with special discounts available to conference attendees.

To submit your paper proposal, visit the PCS website starting October 14. The deadline for paper proposals is December 21. The conference selection committee will review proposals and inform authors of their placement on the program no later than January 6, 2014. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to upload PDF copies of them by February 21.

Situated in the heart of Charleston’s historic district, the Francis Marion Hotel is within a short walk of dozens of unique restaurants, bars, galleries, shops, and everything that downtown Charleston has to offer. Nearby attractions include Fort Sumter, Market Street, the South Carolina Aquarium, and dozens of properties of architectural and historic significance.

The hotel room rate is $199 until February 4, 2014, or until the PCS room block is reached. Book exhibitors and conference registration will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, and sessions will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Conference registration is $200 for students and $250 for non-students. Getting to Charleston is quite easy, as Charleston International Airport is serviced by all major airlines with connecting flights from over 10 hub cities.

This is the most exciting time ever for the Public Choice Society. The 2014 conference promises to be one of our largest to date, again featuring a large student presence, and the downtown Charleston setting is ideal. So come have a good time, catch up with old friends, and discover new lines of research at our 51st annual conference. We especially encourage you to share this with your graduate students, who will benefit from an invigorating atmosphere and rigorous discussion of their papers at the 2014 conference.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I look forward to seeing you in Charleston next March, and I thank you for participating in The Public Choice Society.

Sincerely yours,

Edward J. Lopez
President, 2012-2014
